Fitness Gadgets: Pros and Cons

There is never a shortage of new fitness gadgets. They pop up everywhere and it can be hard to determine which ones are right for you and those to skip on. To help you out, here are the pros and cons of the most popular gadgets.

Pedometer

Pros: Pedometers are a great way to incorporate fitness into your every day life. Challenging your self to reach 10,000 steps each day can help you stay fit and active. It’s the small efforts of each day that can make a huge difference.

Cons: Relying solely on a pedometer isn’t the most effective way to keep track of your daily physical activity. They can often be so sensitive that small movements are tracked leaving a false number of daily steps.

GPS Watch

Pros: GPS watches can be a useful tool for long distance and trail runners. These high tech gadgets will give you GPS coordinates to track your location on your runs. This can be an excellent tool to have when hitting the trails to prevent you from getting lost and keeping track of all your runs and progress. Many GPS watches will also track your heart rate and calories

Cons: GPS watches are very expensive. For those who are casual joggers won’t find too much use for this intricate watch, and would be better off with something less expensive that will accommodate less intense workouts. If technology isn’t your thing, these type of watches can be tricky to use and not as user friendly as the fitness trackers.

 

Fitness Trackers

Pros: Think pedometer on steroids. Fitness trackers can be a great way to track your progress. These little gadgets not only track mileage and heart rate, they track calories, progress, provide music, and some even act as a radio and mobile phone. Cons: These types of trackers can be expensive. If you already have an mp3 player and aren’t interested in tracking your fitness

Pros: The TRX training system allows you to work every muscle in your body with minimal equipment. It can be brought with you virtually everywhere, which is great for people who travel. With its versatility you’re able to choose from various different routines so you’re less likely to get bored.

Cons: If you have trouble motivating and pushing yourself during at-home workouts you may not benefit completely from this system.
